Director of Community Programs: Team Cleveland

Position Title: Director of Community Programs: Team Cleveland

Report to: CEO of Cleveland-Bolivar County Chamber of Commerce and Team Cleveland Board of Directors

Overview of Position: The Director of Team Cleveland is will promote, plan and manage downtown activities and special events, educate businesses, serve as a listener, collaborator, clearinghouse, visionary, facilitator and coordinator based on the four points of the Main Street Program. This position will serve as the Director of the Certified Retirement Community Program when the designation is received.

Job Description: Coordinate all projects and activities within the downtown to promote economic development, quality of life, and historic preservation. Represent the community locally, regionally and nationally. Statewide manager trainings will be provided by the Mississippi Main Street Association and attendance is required. Weekend and evening hours will also be required at certain times throughout the year.

Job Responsibilities: Coordinate the activities of the Main Street Program and volunteer task forces. Manage all administrative aspects of the Team Cleveland Main Street Program including: developing and maintaining an appropriate data system for record keeping, developing and monitoring budgets, accounting, purchasing, preparing reports, documenting all physical changes, retaining information on job creation and business retention as required by the Mississippi Main Street Association and National Main Street Center, and all other office activities. Develop strategies for downtown economic development and historic preservation with various committees and Board of Directors, create an annual action plan focused on the four points of a Main Street Program. Serve as the first point of contact for guests at the Cleveland-Bolivar County Chamber of Commerce directing and answering questions from the community and visitors. Maintain web page and social media accounts for Team Cleveland. Send newsletters and timely communication to members/merchants to keep them informed of activities going on downtown. Continue to produce and manage numerous special events throughout the year including: Octoberfest, Christmas Open House, Mardi Gras Parade/Events, Easter Activities, Shop Local Campaigns, etc. Coordinate and manage all preparation of events, including but not limited to registration, sponsorships and volunteer coordination. Able to work all downtown special events; must have a flexible schedule and willingly to work long hours when necessary. Must be accessible outside of normal office working hours. Recruit and retain members of Team Cleveland. Advise and assist in efforts to attract people to downtown. Participate in appropriate community organizations. Develop and conduct public awareness and education programs through speaking engagements, media interviews and appearances it kept the program highly visible and in a positive light. Must maintain positive relationships with all media outlets. Provide advice and guidance to individual tenants or property owners regarding physical improvements, vacancies and other issues. Build strong and productive relationships with appropriate public agencies at the local and state level.

Job Requirements: Entrepreneurial spirit. Marketing, public relations, graphic design and advertising skills desired. Knowledge of downtown public and private issues desired. Excellent organizational skills. Strong computer skills in cloud based web applications, social media outlets, spreadsheets and CRM systems. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Retail experience is desired.

Education/Experience: Bachelor’s degree and/or five years of experience in community development, business economics, downtown development, marketing, public relations or advertising. Any equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

Salary: Will be determined based on qualifications and experience.
