Public & Private Schools

There are three consolidated school districts in Bolivar County, each offering progressive and strong academic programs:

Cleveland Central School District

The largest public school district in Bolivar County, Cleveland Central School District, serves the communities of Cleveland, Boyle, Renova, and Merigold across multiple schools, including:

  • Two PreK-6 magnet schools:

    • Hayes Cooper Center for Math, Science, and Technology – Previously located in Merigold, the school is now  based at Delta State University, continuing its accelerated academic program and recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School.

    • Bell Academy (Boyle) – A Math, Science, and Health Education-focused PreK-6 magnet school.

  • Elementary Schools

    • D.M. Smith Elementary School – Focused on developing strong foundational skills in core subjects and enrichment programs.

    • H.M. Nailor Elementary – Offers a comprehensive curriculum with an emphasis on literacy and numeracy.

    • Parks Elementary – Provides engaging educational programs, including STEM and arts initiatives.

    • Pearman Elementary – Committed to fostering student success through innovative teaching methods.

    • Cleveland Career Development & Technology Center – Provides career-ready skills in fields such as Welding, Health Science, Business, Law & Public Safety, Child Care, Information Technology, Construction, Automotive Technology, Hospitality, and Educator Preparation.

North Bolivar Consolidated School District

The North Bolivar Consolidated School District serves Mound Bayou, Shelby, Alligator, Duncan, and Winstonville. The district includes:

  • I.T. Montgomery Elementary School (K-6) – Located in Mound Bayou, emphasizing student achievement and early education initiatives with a focus on community heritage and leadership development.

  • C.E. Hall Elementary School (K-6) – Provides strong academic programs, student enrichment activities, and literacy-focused initiatives aimed at preparing students for middle school success.

  • Northside High School (7-12) – Located in Shelby, offering college and career readiness programs, a range of Advanced Placement (AP) courses, athletics, and extracurricular opportunities such as STEM and fine arts clubs.

West Bolivar Consolidated School District

The West Bolivar Consolidated School District serves Shaw, Pace, Rosedale, Gunnison, Benoit, and Beulah. The district consists of:

  • McEvans Elementary School (Shaw) – Providing a strong foundation in literacy, numeracy, and STEM-based learning for students in grades K-6.

  • Shaw High School – A 7-12 school in Shaw, focusing on college and career preparation with rigorous academic programs and extracurricular opportunities.

  • West Bolivar Elementary School – Serving grades K-6, emphasizing technology-driven learning and hands-on enrichment programs.

  • West Bolivar High School – A 7-12 school in Rosedale, offering college preparatory courses, career and technical training, and a strong athletics program.

  • Joe Barnes Vocational Center – Provides career and technical education (CTE) programs to prepare students for various trades and workforce opportunities, including automotive technology, welding, and healthcare pathways.

Private & Independent Schools

  • Presbyterian Day School – A highly regarded Christian-based school serving K2-6th grade students. The school is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) and the Mississippi Association of Independent Schools (MAIS). Presbyterian Day School is recognized for its strong focus on academic excellence, character development, and faith-based education, preparing students for a seamless transition into secondary education.

  • Bayou Academy – An independent school offering K3-12th grade education. Bayou Academy is known for its college preparatory curriculum, strong ACT performance, and emphasis on Fine Arts, including band, ceramics, theatre, and art. It also provides the COLTS program, which offers specialized learning support, including dyslexia therapy and individualized student assistance.

Higher Education: Delta State University & Community Colleges

Community Colleges

Bolivar County is also supported by two community college institutions that provide accessible education and workforce training:

  • Mississippi Delta Community College – Located in Moorhead, MS, offering associate degrees, technical programs, and workforce development training tailored to regional industry needs.

  • Coahoma Community College – Located in Clarksdale, MS, providing career-technical programs, academic transfer pathways, and workforce development initiatives that benefit both students and local employers.
