Bolivar County Showcases Growth and Innovation at Capitol Day in Jackson
JACKSON, MS – Leaders and stakeholders from Bolivar County gathered at the Mississippi State Capitol yesterday for Bolivar County Capitol Day, an initiative designed to strengthen relationships with state lawmakers and advocate for key community priorities. The event provided a platform for discussions on economic development, education, tourism, and infrastructure needs.
Representatives from the Cleveland-Bolivar County Chamber of Commerce, GRAMMY Museum Mississippi, and Delta State University joined local officials and business leaders to meet with state legislators and agency representatives. Bolivar County was also honored with official recognition in both the Mississippi Senate and House legislative sessions, underscoring the county’s contributions to the state’s economic and cultural landscape.
Bolivar County leaders extend their sincere thanks to Senator Sarita Simmons, Representative Robert Sanders, and Representative Otis Anthony for their continued support and advocacy on behalf of our community. Their commitment to Bolivar County plays a crucial role in driving progress and securing resources for the region.
Additionally, two student pages from Cleveland Central High School had the unique opportunity to participate in the legislative process, gaining first hand experience in state government. Their involvement highlights the importance of civic engagement and leadership development for Bolivar County’s future.
“Bolivar County is a hub for education, arts, and economic opportunity, and we want to ensure that our region remains at the forefront of growth in Mississippi,” said Hannah Aguzzi, Executive Director. “Capitol Day allows us to connect directly with state leaders, advocate for resources, and showcase why our county is such a vital part of the Delta.”
Key discussion topics included infrastructure improvements, workforce development, tourism initiatives, and funding opportunities for educational and cultural institutions. Bolivar County representatives also emphasized the significance of continued investment in tourism, workforce development, and community programming to drive economic growth.
To continue these important conversations in a more informal setting, Bolivar County leaders invited legislators to a Delta Happy Hour following the sessions, thanks to the support of Ten One Strategies. This gathering provided an additional opportunity to strengthen relationships and discuss initiatives that will benefit the county and the Delta region as a whole.
Bolivar County’s delegation left Jackson with strengthened partnerships and a shared commitment to continued collaboration with state leaders. With ongoing support, the county looks forward to securing necessary resources and fostering sustainable growth for the region.
